This book comprises 44 black and white photographs taken on the Gunkanjima coal mining island, which is located outside Nagasaki in Japan. The book includes a history of the island, which in 1959 had a population of 5,259 and was abandoned in 1974 when the coal deposits were depleted.
The post-apocalyptic photographs in the book serve as a reminder of the ruin and devastation that awaits with continued coal and fossil fuel use.
