This book comprises 46 photographs taken at the Belval site in Southern Luxembourg, which in the past was a centrum for steel making with 6 blast furnaces that transformed iron ore to cast iron. Following the closure of the last of the furnaces in 1997, two have been restored and the site has been redeveloped into a rejuvenated and vibrant post-industrial urban area.
The site is today the home of part of the University of Luxembourg, the Research Institute of Biotechnology, a large shopping centre, a number of restaurants and cafés and some 3,000 residents and 6,000 students and researchers. Belval is a good example of how industrial heritage can be restored and repurposed in a circular manner.
The book is available at the Alinéa bookshop in Luxembourg city and Librairie Diderich in Esch-sur-Alzette, and can be ordered from info@fipha.lu. A digital version of the book can be downloaded here.
